Water in NICARAGUAWhen Hurricane Mitch devastated northern Nicaragua. Rotary Clubs were able to play a key role in providing medication and critical relief. The next challenge was to help restore farmland to enable the people of Nicaragua to feed themselves. Local growers freely supplied sand, gravel and labour. Rotarians helped finance the cement, enabling them to make concrete. Once provided with rubber hose, filters and accessories, they built irrigation systems. These simple components with their effort, can convert wasted land into productive farmland. |
